Custom Signs Markham

Markham calls itself Canada's High-Tech Capital, and the numbers back it up: more than 1,500 tech companies and over 35,400 ICT workers, the highest concentration of technology employment in the country, supported by incubators like ventureLAB, YSpace, and Seneca Helix. IBM Canada's head office sits at 8200 Warden Avenue, sharing the building with the IBM Toronto Software Lab, the largest software development lab in Canada, running continuously since 1967. Aviva Canada is headquartered here too. A few kilometres away, Pacific Mall, the largest Asian shopping mall in the Western world, and the heritage streetscape of Unionville's Main Street couldn't be further from that tech-corridor identity.

Signage for Markham's Tech Corridor

The Highway 7 and Warden Avenue corridor, along with Commerce Valley and the Allstate Corporate Centre area, holds the bulk of Markham's technology and corporate office base, anchored by long-established names like IBM Canada and newer companies drawn in by the city's incubator ecosystem.

Signage for Pacific Mall and the Highway 7 Asian Retail District

Pacific Mall, opened in 1997 as the largest Asian shopping mall in the Western world, and First Markham Place, which followed in 1998 with more than 170 stores, sit along the same stretch of Highway 7, together forming one of the densest concentrations of independent Asian retail in North America. This is genuinely different retail signage from a standard suburban plaza: hundreds of small individual units, many needing signage that works in more than one language.

What we build for this retail district:

Signage for Unionville

Unionville's Main Street is one of the best-preserved heritage villages in the GTA, a genuinely different signage environment from both the tech corridor and Pacific Mall.

What we build for Unionville businesses:

• Blade signs, well suited to Unionville's historic Main Street, available illuminated, non-illuminated, as a lightbox, or as premium push-thru
• Free-standing letters and marquee signs, the marquee style a natural fit for the village's heritage character
• Custom wall murals for boutique and restaurant interiors that respect the heritage building envelope

Markham Sign Permits

The City of Markham has its own sign bylaw, separate from Toronto, Vaughan, or Richmond Hill. Unionville's heritage conservation district adds design guidelines on top of the general bylaw, covering sign size, materials, and mounting style along Main Street Unionville. Large multi-unit retail buildings like Pacific Mall and First Markham Place typically operate under their own tenant signage standards set by property management, in addition to the city's general bylaw. Corporate campuses along Highway 7 follow standard commercial rules without the heritage layer.
